Introduction to Punch Needle Workshop at Kirkstall Forge
Learn how to use different punch needle tools, materials and make a start on your own punch needle artwork.
Create your own punch needle artwork using a wide variety of different colours and textures. Start with a practice with four different types of punch needle tool and 4 different types of fabric. Once you know what works best you'll move onto a bigger piece with a good knowledge of the technique. If you've caught the bug and can't wait to keep going there'll be a variety of tools available to buy so you can keep going at home.
This workshop will take place in Butlers at Kirkstall Forge. There's a train station on site and Kirkstall Forge wants to encourage sustainability, but if you'd like a parking space let me know and we can get one arranged. Sadly the cafe will not be open, but you’re welcome to bring your own drinks and snacks.

Mosaic Decorations at Lakeside Arts Centre
Create your own mosaic artwork!
In this workshop we will turn mosaic tiles, broken crockery and lots of other up-cycled pieces into your mosaic works of art.

You will be able to choose from a large choice of base shapes to work on and learn the best adhesives to use of each one.
At the end of the workshop, you’ll be given a bag of grout to take home to finish your pieces at a later date – a demo will be done to show you what to do.

Join us at Calverley Old Hall Community Space to try something new in this full day workshop. Led by rag rugging tutor, Kim, from Darn It! Workshops, come along to join like-minded people to learn new skills, or develop your existing skills.
In this beginner friendly session you'll learn two versatile rag rug techniques which you will use to make a piece of wall art, homewares, a brooch or more. Kim will guide you through the techniques, advise you on your final piece design and support you throughout this friendly, sociable session.
Rag rugging is a technique traditionally used to turn rags into textural rugs. It is eco-friendly, often using recycled or re-used fabrics, whilst producing wonderful, colourful final pieces which can bring joy to your home.
As rag rugging can take some time to complete you may not finish your piece during the session (but if you opt to do a brooch you will do) but you will leave with the tools and skills to be able to complete it at home. There will be a wide range of fabric scraps, recycled materials, colourful rope, buttons and other things to choose from to make your own unique piece.
What to expect on the day
All equipment and materials will be provided.
Tea/coffee will be available, but all participants should bring their own packed lunch.
There are no food heating facilities, but there is a fridge to store your packed lunch in beforehand.
This workshop is for adults aged 18+.

In order to make this workshop as accessible as possible for all, we are offering a £5 discount on the ticket price for students, people on low income or income support and NHS workers.

Calverley Old Hall Community Space has been designed to be as accessible as possible, however it is still a historic building with restrictions. There is level access to the main front door, the pathway from the road is a combination of gravel and paving slabs. In the Community Space there is level access throughout, with a small 2cm metal ridge across the threshold of the external doorway.

Textile Crafting Retreat at Cober Hill
Embark on a week-long textile crafting retreat at the picturesque Cober Hill, nestled along the North Yorkshire coast, hosted by North Yorks Art School and bookaclass.com.
From 22nd to 27th March 2026, textile crafters of all levels are invited to what promises to be a vibrant creative journey, exploring new techniques, refining skills and connecting with a warm, supportive community of like-minded individuals. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced crafter, this retreat offers the perfect blend of structured learning and creative freedom in a stunning coastal setting.
Over four days, Monday to Thursday 10am to 4pm, you’ll engage in expertly led workshops by our talented tutors Agnis Smallwood, Kim Searle, Holly Capstick and Meredith Towne. Each day features focused morning and afternoon sessions, with ample breaks for reflection, informal discussions and enjoying Cober Hill’s serene surroundings.
The retreat covers four distinct textile crafts, rotating daily to ensure every participant experiences each discipline:

Each session is designed to spark creativity, build confidence, and deepen your understanding of diverse textile crafting techniques. All workshop materials are supplied, ensuring a seamless creative experience.
The residential package includes full board, en-suite accommodation in Cober Hill’s historic mansion house with breakfast and evening meals provided, alongside a daily buffet lunch.
Complimentary refreshments, including tea, coffee and snacks are available throughout the day. We will also have a number of optional evening activities for participants to take part in, including evening films, guest speakers and a quiz night.

Bargello Accessories Workshop at Kirkstall Forge
Create your own stitched accessories with this bold, vintage technique!
Bargello is a vintage needlepoint technique originating in Italy. It uses long stitches and has a great vintage look to it! It's easy to do and incredibly addictive. In this session, we'll be making hand-stitched accessories, including earrings, necklaces, keyrings, bookmarks, and more! Master Bargello stitches, learn how to read patterns, and get top Bargello tips.

Macrame Planters Workshop at RHS Bridgewater
This workshop will equip you with all the skills you need to create your own macrame plant hanger. Choose from a wide selection of recycled cotton cords and t-shirt yarn to create your design.
Your tutor, Kim Searle, will guide you through all the knots you’ll need to get started. These can be used as the building blocks for lots of other macrame projects. There will be a variety of different designs to choose from and you’ll leave with at least one finished plant hanger.
Please note, a plant pot is not included in the ticket price.

This session learn mending techniques that highlight and celebrate the repair process. We'll cover patching with various embroidery techniques, darning and sashiko stitches. Bring clothes to repair or leave with a variety of samples using our fabrics.

COVID WORKSHOP INFORMATION:
If you have any symptoms of COVID please do not attend the workshop.
The workshop and Eco Hub services will have been thoroughly cleaned beforehand, surfaces and equipment will be cleaned throughout the event.
There is a maximum of 4 people in the Eco Hub Workshop or 10 in our alternative workshop area (Lucy's Cabin).
Hand sanister and antibactiral wipes will be available through out the workshop should you need.
We offer a well ventilated work area.
Masks or visors are required during demonstrations or moving around the workshop, but optional whole seated at your work area.
CANCELLATIONS

Festive Macrame Decoration Workshop at the Craft House
This session we'll be making our own festive macrame decorations from a variety of cords in different sizes. It's the perfect craft for anyone who likes to make their own decorations and learn new craft techniques.
You'll learn all the macrame knots you'll need to make a variety of different designs and you should leave with a few finished pieces and a few instructional sheets to make more at home. The techniques learnt in this session will work for much bigger macrame pieces too.

Create your own miniature plant pots with artist and maker Kim Searle (as seen on Kirstie's Handmade Christmas!) using a variety of geometric and recycled moulds. Jesmonite is a versatile material that will create a different pot every time - you'll learn how to weigh it, mix it, add colours and textural effects to create a pot unique to you. Pots can be made with pale pastels or vibrant colours, block colours or fantastic marbled effects. You will get to try a type of Jesmonite that will set by the end of the session as well as another type that will set the next day and has a much more organic look. There will be a variety of plant cuttings that you can add to your new set pots!
Skill Level: Suitable for beginners.

Festive String Art Workshop at Mrs Duttons
Get creative with hammer, nails and colourful thread in this festive workshop! String art (sometimes called pin and thread art or filography) is a fun craft where you tap a simple design into wood with small nails, then weave and wrap thread to bring it to life. Under the guidance of our tutor, you’ll learn how to plan and build your piece – whether you’d like to follow one of our tutor’s seasonal patterns or create a design of your own.
Perfect for handmade gifts or unique decorations, your finished piece will be ready to take home and enjoy for the holidays.

This workshop is perfect for anyone who likes to send their Christmas cards out early with a personal touch. Of course you can do non-festive prints if you like as well. In this session you will learn how to cut lino perfectly with a variety of techniques and how to print it like a pro. There will be lots of images to inspire and work from. If there's a specific image you'd like to work from bring it along. There will be a variety of different coloured inks and cards, tags and paper to print onto.

Stitched Baskets, Coasters and Placemats at Thread Republic
In this workshop we'll create baskets using cotton cord, colourful thread and scraps of fabric! This creates a soft but durable basket, coaster or placemat. You can choose the shape and add handles or leave it as a bowl shape.
Sewing Skill Level: Basic sewing machine skills needed
You’ll need: Bring your sewing machine- we have a few you can use so please let me know if you'd like to use one of ours, but it's best to learn on your own.

Heritage Rag Rugging Techniques at Calverley Old Hall
Join us at Calverley Old Hall Community Space to try something new in this full day workshop. Led by rag rugging tutor, Kim, from Darn It! Workshops, come along to join like-minded people to learn new skills, or develop your existing skills.
In this beginner friendly session you'll learn two versatile rag rug techniques which you will use to make a piece of wall art, homewares, a brooch or more. Kim will guide you through the techniques, advise you on your final piece design and support you throughout this friendly, sociable session.
Rag rugging is a technique traditionally used to turn rags into textural rugs. It is eco-friendly, often using recycled or re-used fabrics, whilst producing wonderful, colourful final pieces which can bring joy to your home.
As rag rugging can take some time to complete you may not finish your piece during the session (but if you opt to do a brooch you will do) but you will leave with the tools and skills to be able to complete it at home. There will be a wide range of fabric scraps, recycled materials, colourful rope, buttons and other things to choose from to make your own unique piece.
What to expect on the day
All equipment and materials will be provided.
Tea/coffee will be available, but all participants should bring their own packed lunch.
There are no food heating facilities, but there is a fridge to store your packed lunch in beforehand.
This workshop is for adults aged 18+.

Getting here
There is no parking on site, the building is in the centre of Calverley, on Woodhall Road, so we encourage visitors to use Leeds and Bradford’s excellent public transport to travel to the event. Please check local travel information for full details.
If you need to drive, there is ample on street parking in the surrounding area. Please park considerately for our neighbours.

Accessibility
Calverley Old Hall Community Space has been designed to be as accessible as possible, however it is still a historic building with restrictions. There is level access to the main front door, the pathway from the road is a combination of gravel and paving slabs. In the Community Space there is level access throughout, with a small 2cm metal ridge across the threshold of the external doorway.

Poured Candle Making Workshop at the Craft House
Join artist and maker Kim Searle to create your own poured candles* using soy wax, essential oils and scents, decoration, jam jars, vintage tea cups and more. All materials used in this workshop are vegan-friendly!

Modern Rag Rug Techniques at the Craft House
Rag Rugging is a technique traditionally used to turn rags into textural rags. Introduction to Loom Darning Workshop at NYAS Scarborough
Join Kim Searle for a half-day introduction to loom darning workshop. In this session we’ll be looking at darning on a replica vintage speedweve. Visible Mending at NYAS Scarborough
Join Kim for a relaxed afternoon learning all things mending. Learn about the history of different mending techniques around the world and use vintage darning tools. Technique wise we'll cover darning techniques including traditional, surface and scotch darning on a darning loom and a variety of vintage mushrooms. Punch Needle Art Half-Day Workshop

Stitched Bowls Workshop at LarkDesignMake
In this session we’ll be making coasters, bowls, placemats and decorations using a coiled technique on a sewing machine. We’ll start with the same cotton cord and customise it with colourful thread, fabric and shapes that are unique to use. This technique can be fiddly at the start but quickly becomes great fun and a quick way to produce a finished piece.
Basic sewing machine knowledge needed.
